About the show

frisson noun from the French, a shiver or thrill; goose bumps.

Those are the moments the show is built to find. Every week since November 2018, Frisson Radio has broadcast two hours live from Toronto on CIUT 89.5 FM, with rebroadcasts on CFRC 101.9 in Kingston and CKXU 88.3 in Lethbridge. The premise has not changed since the first episode: give Canadian artists, producers and DJs a platform for exposure and expression, and put their records next to whoever else from around the world belongs beside them.

The people

Mikhael “Miks” Lamont

Founder, Producer, and Co-Host

Mikhael “Miks” Lamont is a Toronto-based music curator, A&R professional, event producer and founder and host of Frisson Radio. For more than seven years, he’s worked across radio, music programming, artist development and live events, with a focus on discovering music and helping it find an audience. Through Frisson Radio, Miks brings that experience together to spotlight Canadian artists alongside new and interesting music from around the world, particularly the records you might not hear everywhere else.

Nabeel Pervaiz

Producer, Co-Host, and Photographer

Nabeel Pervaiz has spent most of his career around Canadian music. He co-founded Saving Soul Blog in 2009, before running the online arm of ITZSOWEEZEE as editor-in-chief for nearly eight years, growing it into a recognised voice in Toronto’s electronic music scene. From 2017 to 2019, he was Documentation Producer for Manifesto, leading photography and videography teams across festival cycles and live events. He is a creative producer and photographer based in the Toronto area, and joined Frisson Radio in early 2019 as co-producer and co-host. Between the writing, the photographs, and the show, he’s followed the same principle throughout: finding artists worth hearing and putting them in front of people.

Ola Mazzuca

The Fold: Producer, Co-Host

Ola Mazzuca is a creative communications professional who blends intentional strategies with limitless ideas. With nearly 20 years of experience, her roots as a multimedia journalist merge a community-driven approach with a passion for music, art, culture, and people. Her work as a DJ, known as olasconola, and radio host lives through her longstanding platform, Sonic Fold, where she hosts and produces two programs: The Fold, a live artist interview series on Frisson Radio, and Sound Travels, which features community cultivators and their layered, personal connections with music, broadcast monthly via Jolt Radio in Miami and Another Setting Radio in Toronto.

The Fold

The Fold is a collaboration with Sonic Fold, highlighting community cultivators within our local industry. The live interview series provides artists, organizations and creative professionals time and space to wax poetic on their journeys to date, new tunes or projects, and delve a bit deeper into the impetus behind their work. It runs as an hour inside the show, roughly once a month.

Recent guests include Glenn Lewis, The Kount & Noam, It’s OK* World, Kadhja Bonet, DijahSB and Chris LaRocca.
